Professional Experience and Qualifications
John’s professional qualifications include a wide range of engineering and technical services designed to serve the real estate industry and municipalities in conceptual planning, preparation of plans for infrastructure and securing approvals. Engineering designs, which utilize CAD technology, include water (source development, treatment, storage and distribution), wastewater (collection, treatment and disposal), stormwater (conveyance and treatment) erosion control and resource management (wetlands, wildlife habitat). Additionally, prepares all requisite applications for a proposed project on all development related improvements as well as represents the client before reviewing boards and agencies.
John Stuart, P.E. provides civil and environmental engineering services to the residential and commercial real estate business community in Vermont, New Hampshire and New York for more than 40 years, is a registered Professional Engineer and is certified by Vermont under the Designer License program (I-313). He is a graduate from Norwich University with a B.S. in Engineering Management and engaged in comprehensive course work in the University of Vermont Environmental Engineering Master’s program.
John is a veteran of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, was commissioned after graduation from Norwich and was honorably discharged from active duty with the grade of Captain. He served as Director of Facilities Engineering in Vicenza, Italy as part of the Southern European Task Force with a work force comprised of Department of the Army civilians (8) and Italian nationals consisting of technicians and craftsman (160). As director, he was responsible for physical facilities throughout northern Italy. He also served as S-2 (Group Intelligence Officer) and Assistant S-3 (Operations) in Phu Bai, Vietnam (Northern I Corps). Awards for his service included the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal.
Personal Skills and Interests
John is an avid student of history (U.S. and military) and geopolitical events. He is also an artist with a focus on landscape oil painting. He is a connoisseur and collector of fine wines and enjoys visits to vineyards in Europe and the U.S. John is also a dedicated athlete and is engaged in road cycling, running, golfing, downhill skiing and Pilates. He has competed in road races, time trials and criteriums throughout New England and Canada and is a former VT handball champion. He was also active in youth sports programs as the President of the Champlain Hockey League and Vice President of Essex Youth Hockey.
He has lived in Essex with his wife in Vermont since 1970 where they raised two children who reside in North Carolina and California to pursue careers in the power and data cable manufacturing and internet consumer to consumer auctions, respectively.
